About me

Dr. Angel Angelov is the Director of the Bulgarian Center of Competence “Agri-food system and Bioeconomy”. Prof. Angelov’s research interests are in the fields of food microbiology, fermentation technology, biotechnology, microbial products, functional foods, molecular biology, food safety, rapid methods for microbiological, biochemical and physic-chemical analyses in the food chain, food quality management.

Prof. Angelov is a National delegate in the Horizon Europe Programme Committee configuration “Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment” and was also a delegate in the previous Programme Committee “Challenges for The European Bio-economy: Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry, Marine and Inland Marine Research” of “Horizon 2020”. He is also the Bulgarian representative in the EFSA Network on Nanotechnologies.

Prof. Angelov has participated in a number of national and international research and networking projects under FP6, FP7 and FP8 programmes of th EU, COST, TEMPUS, ERASMUS, HORIZON 2020 and HORIZON EUROPE.

Prof. Angelov is actively involved in various networking activities in the food and biotechnology sectors in Bulgaria and internationally and has long years of cooperation with food and biotechnology businesses (incl. SMEs), governmental organizations, branch organizations and other NGOs. He has organized a number of conferences, meetings and vocational training events in Bulgaria which have attracted a high number of participants from various stakeholders.
