PRACTICAL INFORMATION NOTE

Dear participant,

We are pleased to welcome you to the CISE High Level Event, organized by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) with the assistance of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), on 17 October 2024 at Thon Hotel EU in Brussels, located in Rue de la Loi 75, 1040 Brussels.

Please find below some important information about the event:

THE VENUE

The CISE High Level Event will be taking place at Thon Hotel EU.

To access Thon Hotel EU, please use the entrance located in Rue de Trèves 132,1040 Brussels

How to get to the venue

  • From Brussels Zaventem airport:

    1. TRAIN

      There is a train service from Brussels Zaventem Airport to Brussels every 10 minutes between 5am and midnight, 7 days a week. The ride takes approximately 20 minutes and costs €10.80. Tickets can be purchased here.

      In the weekend there are 5 trains per hour to Brussels until about 23.00 hours Sunday evening. After that the trains run less frequently. More information can be found here.

      We advise you to take the train from the Brussels Airport train station, located below the terminal (basement level -1) and disembark at Brussels-Schuman. Then, you may take the line 1 or 5 from Schuman to the Maelbeek station (Thon Hotel EU is situated right at the station) or walk 500 m (8 min) to Thon Hotel EU.

    2. BUS

      Every airport bus departs and arrives at the bus station at Level 0.

      The Airport Line is a public transport Brussels airport bus that takes you to the European district, Luxemburg station and to the city centre. There are two buses: Line 12 and Line 21.

      Line 12 (operates Mon-Fri until 8pm) and only travels to main stations - the only metro stop is Schuman (EU Headquarters) and the last stop is Luxemburg station.

      Line 21 (operates after 8pm on weekdays and on weekends) has many more stops. The ticket costs €7,50. More information can be found here.

      We advise you to take the bus 12 and disembark at Schuman. Then, you may take the line 1 or 5 from Schuman to the Maelbeek station (Thon Hotel EU is situated right at the station) or walk 500 m (8 min) to Thon Hotel EU.

      You may also disembark at Luxembourg and then walk 600 m (9 min) to Thon Hotel EU.

    3. TAXI

      The taxi from Zaventem airport to Brussels costs approximately €50. The price may vary depending on the hour and amount of traffic.

  • From Brussels Midi train station:

    We advise you to take the metro line 2 or 6, direction Simonis Elisabeth, to the Arts-Loi station. From the Arts-Loi station walk 650 m (9 min) to Thon Hotel EU. You may take the line 1 or 5 from Arts-Loi to the Maelbeek station. The Thon Hotel is situated right at that station.

REGISTRATION AND SECURITY

Registration desks will be located on the ground floor and they will be open from 09:00 (CET).

To ensure smooth registration, please be ready to present your valid passport or ID card, the QR code received in this email, in order to print your badge. Having a badge is compulsory to access the conference premises during the day.

Should you not have your QR code, please ask the onsite staff in the registration area to print your badge by presenting your ID card with your name.

Kindly note that all participants will have to pass through registration and safety checks, before entering the meeting room. In addition, on 17 October 2024 there will be an EU Summit at the Council of the European Union, located in the same area of Thon Hotel EU, and some metro stations might be closed. Therefore, we suggest arriving well on time at the venue.

CATERING

During the event, welcome coffee and coffee breaks will be served in the coffee area just outside of the Belgium Meeting room.

The standing lunch will be served in the Netherlands meeting room, located in front of the Belgium Meeting room.

Kindly note that food will be labelled to respect any kind of allergies and specific dietary requirements.

EXHIBITION ROOM

An exhibition room will be open from 9:00 (CET) to 19:00 (CET) in the Germany meeting room, located on the same floor of the Belgium meeting room (1st floor).

LIVE STREAMING

The CISE High Level Event will be livestreamed here.

As live streaming was recently decided, in case you do not wish to be filmed during the event, you need to indicate this at the time of the registration.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT BRUSSELS

Public transport

Single transport tickets can be purchased in BOOTIK-KIOSK-GO vending machines. One journey covers the entire network and allows to change lines and transport (bus, tram and metro).

Business hours

Shops open from 9am to 6pm on weekdays. However, smaller general stores are opened until later (21:00 maximum).

Language

French and Dutch (English is largely spoken as well)
