About

This project tackles climate change through Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU). We aim to capture CO2 emissions and convert them into valuable sustainable fuels and chemicals using two innovative processes:

Process 1: Direct Hydrogenation of CO2 to Methanol

  • Feedstock: Captured CO2 and renewable hydrogen

  • Technology: We will explore two approaches for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol:

    • Conventional Cu-based catalysts: This established technology offers a baseline for comparison.

    • Novel in-house catalysts: Our team has developed new catalysts that may improve efficiency and selectivity for methanol production.

  • Process Conditions: We will operate the reactors under relevant industrial process parameters, ensuring scalability and practicality.

  • Product: The targeted product is methanol, a versatile building block for various chemicals and fuels like gasoline or biodiesel.

Process 2: Modified Fischer-Tropsch Process for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)

  • Feedstock: CO derived from captured CO2 and renewable hydrogen

  • Technology: We will utilize a modified Fischer-Tropsch (FT) process tailored for CO utilization.

  • Catalysts: We will employ Co- and Pt-based catalysts optimized for converting CO into jet-range hydrocarbons suitable for SAF production.

  • Product: The target product is a mixture of hydrocarbons in the jet fuel range, enabling the creation of sustainable aviation fuels.

Project Benefits:

  • Reduced Carbon Footprint: By capturing CO2 and converting it into fuels and chemicals, we significantly reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and minimize greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Sustainable Fuels and Chemicals: This project creates a pathway for producing clean and sustainable fuels for transportation and valuable chemicals for various applications.

  • Novel Catalyst Development: Utilizing our in-house expertise, we can potentially develop more efficient and selective catalysts for CO2 conversion.

  • Scalability and Industrial Relevance: Operating under realistic industrial process parameters ensures the project's findings have real-world applicability.

Collaboration Opportunities:

We are actively seeking partners to collaborate on this project. Potential areas include:

  • Sharing expertise in CO2 capture technologies

  • Contributing to catalyst development and testing

  • Optimizing reactor design and process conditions

  • Developing life cycle assessments and techno-economic analyses

  • Exploring commercialization pathways for the produced fuels and chemicals

By working together, we can make a significant contribution to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
