Utilizing microbial biocapsules as a form of immobilized cell technology for the large-scale production of bioethanol from complex raw materials

Jaime Moreno-García

Associate Professor at University of Córdoba

About

The MICROBE (Microbial Immobilized Cell Technology for Raw Organic-Based Ethanol) project aims to advance bioethanol production technology using microbial biocapsules. These biocapsules use filamentous fungi pellets as carriers and are referred to as immobilized cell technology (ICT). The proposed project seeks to advance this technology from TRL 4 to 6 through research and innovation, integrating Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to assess and enhance both the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of the production process. The project takes a collaborative and comprehensive approach tailored towards the attainment of its objectives.
