Damien Fay got his PhD in time series analysis in 2003 from DCU, and then became a lecturer in the department of Math (University of Galway) from 2003 -2007. From 2008 - 2010 he was a research associate and Cambridge and McGill working on applied graph theory. From 2010-2013 he was a research Fellow in UCC (Cork) and then he joined the Data Science Institute at Bournemouth Univseristy as a lecturer (2013-2016). From 2016 he has worked in industry first as a ML/AI modeller in the field of retail and later leading the ML team at Infor. In March 2024 he joined HPE labs in setting up the Irish team with a focus on Data centre digital twin technologies.
