Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Suha Yazici is an electrochemical engineer with over 25 years of academic and industrial research experience in the area of electrochemical energy conversion (batteries and fuel cells) and hydrogen technologies. In addition to his scientific research, he had worked on project and program management, collaborative research and intellectual property management for new product development.
Dr. Yazici has a Ph.D from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT, Chicago, USA, 1992/1996). His Ph.D thesis was on corrosion of molten carbonate fuel cell components. He has graduated from Ankara University, Chemical Engineering department in 1989.
Dr. Mehmet Suha Yazici is currently Associate Professor at Istanbul Technical University, Energy Institute. Prior to that he worked at TUBITAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) as Chief Research Scientist for 10 years. His other experience includes lecturing at Gebze İnstitute of Technology (2008/2012) and Bahcesehir University (2012) on electrochemical energy conversion, hydrogen and fuel cell systems. From 2007 to 2013, he was Director of Fuel Cell Technology and Education at UNIDO-ICHET (International Center for Hydrogen Energy Technologies), Istanbul, Turkey where he promoted hydrogen technologies through various projects and demonstrations. His other professional experience includes Senior Research Scientist at GrafTech International (Cleveland, USA (2001/2007), Research Scientist at Procter & Gamble (P&G, Cincinnati, USA(1998/2001) and Visiting Scientist at AIST Laboratory in Japan (1997/1998).
His research experience includes hydrogrn technology mapping, CVD grown graphene for electrochemical applications, enzyme fuel cell development, Zinc-Air electrode/battery development, lithium-ion battery anode development and fuel cell research. He is actively working to support hydrogen &fuel cell R&D efforts and demonstrations. In addition, he is involved in training of engineers through short courses, laboratory sessions and internships.
He has several patents (15+) and publications (30+ journal articles and 50+ proceedings) covering electrochemical systems in power generation and energy storage applications. He has been respesenting TUBITAK-MAM at Hydrogen Europe-Research, and European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Grouping. He is an active member of The Electrochemical Society (ECS), the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) and International Association of Hydrogen Energy (IAHE). He was country representative for the International Society of Electrochemistry between 2014 and 2018.
