What are European Digital Innovation Hubs?
European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) are part of the European Commission's efforts to boost the digital transformation of businesses across various sectors. These hubs serve as one-stop shops, providing expertise, facilities, and access to technology for companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to embrace digital technologies. The goal is to accelerate innovation, enhance competitiveness, and facilitate the adoption of advanced digital solutions, such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things. EDIHs aim to create a network of hubs across Europe to promote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and support the development of a digitally skilled workforce.
In addition to serving as catalysts for digital transformation, European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) often adopt a "test before invest" approach. This means that companies, particularly SMEs, can leverage the resources and expertise provided by EDIHs to prototype and test digital solutions before making significant financial investments.
By offering a supportive environment for testing, EDIHs aim to de-risk the adoption of new technologies, encourage experimentation, and ultimately empower businesses to make informed investment decisions in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
