EU Blue Schools Webinar: Navigating Funding for Blue Schools
Exciting Funding Opportunities for European Blue Schools!
In September 2024, three sister projects under the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030" — BlueLightS, SHORE, and ProBleu — will launch funding calls for schools involved with or interested in joining the Network of European Blue Schools (NEBS). These funding opportunities aim to enhance water and ocean literacy while supporting the Mission’s objectives and expanding the NEBS's reach.
Tailored Opportunities from Each Project
Each project offers unique opportunities designed to meet specific needs:
-
ProBleu: This project offers support for both marine and freshwater initiatives, encouraging schools to submit citizen science projects.
-
SHORE: Focused on specific regions, SHORE supports projects in the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, Danube River, and Rhine River, with the backing of Country Hubs for regional impact.
-
BlueLightS: Emphasizing resilience and sustainability, BlueLightS encourages innovative approaches, requiring funded schools to participate in experimentation activities and Community of Practice meetings.
Each project has its own timeline and application process. For detailed timelines please refer to the figure below.
Join Our Webinar for Guidance
To help schools navigate these opportunities and guide them through the application process, the NEBS Secretariat will host a webinar on October 9th, 2024, from 18:00 to 19:00 CET. Representatives from all three initiatives will provide an overview of the funding programs, explain the application rules, and answer your questions.

Learn more about the calls
SHORE Open Calls aim to boost ocean and water literacy among primary and secondary students, educators, and schools. They encourage students, teachers, and the local community to co-design and implement projects that promote lifelong learning about ocean and water issues. The initiative also supports educators in developing innovative teaching resources and assists in accrediting schools within the EU4Ocean coalition's Network of European Blue Schools.
BlueLightS aims to strengthen the skills and competencies of European children and youth to deliver “blue” (river and seas) resilience and sustainability. It will do so by supporting exciting co-built blue challenge projects in schools, facilitating a conversation at different scales between the “blue” and education communities, and experimenting with adaptations in education systems that raise attention given to rivers and seas.
ProBleu is dedicated to enhancing ocean and water literacy in schools across Europe and in 18 associated countries. Our aim is to empower schools in crafting an array of educational and citizen science projects about blue sustainability and the safeguarding of marine and freshwater ecosystems. In this 3rd funding call, schools can apply for grants up to €7,500 for projects lasting up to 12 months.
