My organisation

We are ICES, an international organization dedicated to scientific research and advice on marine ecosystems. Our team of experts works collaboratively to provide data and analysis to support sustainable ocean management. With a focus on delivering cutting-edge research, we aim to inform policies and practices for the preservation and responsible use of marine resources.

About me

Prof. David Reid – Chair of the Science Committee, ICES, Denmark. Prof Reid has worked for 35 years in fisheries management, initially at FRS (now Marine Scotland Science) in Aberdeen, Scotland, (1989-2009) and then at the Marine Institute, Ireland (2009-2024). He joined ICES in May 2024 as the chair of the Science Committee. His areas of expertise include; Fisheries; management, sustainability, fishing capacity and effort, research vessel surveys, industry collaboration, and Ecosystem Based Fisheries Management. He has had long involvement with ICES, including chairing many expert groups and also the Science Steering Group on Integrated Ecosystem Assessment, and now SCICOM. He has been involved in 34 EU funded projects, either as national leader or in two cases as scientific coordinator, and has over 160 peer reviewed publications. He is also Adjunct Professor in the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences, University College Cork, Ireland.
