Workshop 16 "Mission Ocean-Unlocking Phase2 Scalable Governance"

Format:In-personLocation:Hotel Clayton - Pegasus 3&4 HallTrack:Workshop - Pegasus 3+4 Hall, Hotel Clayton
  • Enablers (marine research, innovation, technology, observation, blue skills, MSP, digitalisation, investment, ocean literacy etc.)

An interactive needs assessment process will engage participants in collaborative group discussions to identify common transferable recommendations to meet the governance needs of funders, coordinators and researchers associated with the Mission. Participants will collaboratively map governance variables to identify enablers for effective governance. This workshop unites speakers from the Atlantic-Arctic, Mediterranean, and Baltic and North Sea lighthouses to address governance barriers from Phase 1. The workshop will build on the existing governance focussed deliverables and work conducted by each CSA. The governance baseline and gap analysis from each CSA will be used as the basis for the workshop. Focusing on CSA frameworks and EU blue economy priorities the workshop fosters EU-wide collaboration to produce actionable outputs aligned with EU maritime strategies.

This action-oriented workshop takes a stepwise process to:

• Introduce the workshop’s themes and objectives to target audiences including policymakers, funders, researchers, and industry stakeholders.

• Identify key feedback loops influencing environmental systems (e.g., positive and negative loops).

• Facilitate collaborative mapping of governance challenges.

• Develop actionable insights to inform governance strategies.

Discussions will focus on encouraging deep systems thinking and actionable insights tailored to funders and researchers’ needs. This workshop will combine real-life governance insights, interactive discussions and systems thinking to inform and support the scaling of projects for Phase 2 of the Mission and enhancing impact across EU sea basins.

The results of which will then add as a feedback loop into the respective CSA governance work. Participants will support the development of recommendations and proposed actionable strategies informed by system dynamics insights.
