Workshop 19 "Maximising support blue skills and ocean literacy"

Format:In-person
  • Coastal communities: resilience, challenges and opportunities

This workshop will explore how the EU Sea Basins Assistance Mechanism as a “transversal” initiative could further support the uptake of valuable skills for the blue economy and greater ocean literacy by local communities across the EU Sea Basin Strategies. This is in fact a topic for which the different Presidencies/Coordinators of each Sea Basin Strategy have expressed an interest for greater cooperation, both at the policy and importantly at the technical level. The workshop will offer an opportunity to briefly present some of the state of play in this area by the EU Sea Basin Strategies, while further exploring the opportunities and untapped potentials in capitalising the experience in these fields as promoted by relevant initiatives; Such initiative will include the EU4Ocean support to literacy and education for the blue economy, Irish local practices in blue skills and literacy for blue economy innovation and support to local communities, as well as the estate of pay of the ongoing study on blue skills promoted by DG Mare and CINEA.

Suggestions from the audience as part of the interactive Q&A session will also allow to finetune the work of the EU Sea Basin AM for the years to come, including for the cross-fertilisation event foreseen during the EU Macro-regions and Sea Basins Day which will take place in September 2025 in Brussels.
