Workshop 21 "Engaged Scientific Information & Marine Pollution"

Format:In-person
  • Maritime Cooperation (regional, sea-basins, Civil Society, stakeholder relations etc.)

The workshop will share how SOS-ZEROPOL2030 navigates accessibility to evidence based scientific information about different marine pollutants by introducing the Zero-Pollution online Hub and outlining how the project applies a Living Lab approach to engage stakeholder around three regional seas for the emerging and poorly regulated pollutants: Tyre Wear Particles (TWP) and PFAS. Specific focus will be given to making scientific information about PFAS and TWP accessible to diverse audiences using storymaps and how to navigating science, policy and stakeholder engagement in detail through the SOS-ZEROPOL2030 Case Study on TWPs.

The context presentations will be followed by an interactive session to seek feedback on presented approaches and explore with participants how to address challenges and barriers that hinder effective science communication & stakeholder engagement around marine pollution applying a guided conversation approach using the ORID (Objective, Reflective, Interpretive and Decisional) framework. Overall, the first half of the events will contain contextual presentations followed by Q&A to allow for clarification of content, and the second half will focus on participatory segments that allow for shared understanding of presented content to subsequently engage with participants in an open and constructive dialogue to learn from and with each other.
