Planetary defense with telescopes and radio telescopes
About
R&D capabilities are available in the control of the instrumentation necessary to use optical telescopes for the detection of NEOs ( Nearly Earth Object ) that are potentially dangerous to citizens or of strategic interest. Specifically, these capabilities are designed to detect and report:
· Out-of-control/disintegrated satellites in orbit.
· Uncontrolled re-entries of large objects (rocket stages, old satellites).
· Possible orbital collisions generating new clouds of fragments.
· Unreported military or experimental missions (espionage, anti-satellite).
· Detection of events such as explosions in the upper atmosphere or even traces of ballistic missile launches.
In addition to instrumentation control for high-precision positioning, artificial intelligence and photometry techniques are used for the detection, tracking, and analysis of NEOs, including the visible and NIR spectrum.
These solutions can be integrated into the global telescope network as a scalable and sustainable way to address the exponential growth of space traffic.
