About
Instituto Tecnológico de Informática (ITI) is a technology centre specialized in research, development, and innovation in information and communications technologies. Its mission is to improve and maintain the competitive position of technology companies by generating and transferring the knowledge necessary for the evolution of the industry and society in general.
It was created in 1994 at the initiative of the Institute of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises of the Valencian Community (IMPIVA, now IVACE), the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and a group of companies in the ICT sector. It is currently the largest ICT Technology Center in Spain, with a staff of more than 315 people, the largest association of ICT companies in the region, and is part of, among others, the IVACE network of technology centers, the network of technology centers of the Valencian Community (REDIT), and the National Federation of Technology Centers (FEDIT).
More specifically, R&D activity focuses on thecapture, communication, and exploitation of datain a robust, secure, and efficient manner to support decision-making in multiple application domains. This activity isfully aligned with the Horizon Europe program, the European Data Strategy, the Digital Decade, the Spain 2026 Strategy, the Digital Agenda of the Valencian Community, and the Smart Specialization Strategy for Research and Innovation of the Valencian Community (RIS3 CV).
With the center of gravity in the Data, the ITI has a human team with more than 315 technologists, between researchers and technicians who focus their activity on the set of digital enablers that allow from the capture of data with precision and reliability ( Cyber Physical Systems ), its communication ( Cyber connectivity, IoT , ... ), its storage and distributed processing ( Cloud / Edge Computing, Blockchain , ...), the analysis in large quantities ( Big Data Analytics ), with neuromorphic techniques or using statistical and metaheuristic techniques ( Optimization Systems ) and its prediction and simulation ( Artificial Intelligence ), the interaction with users to obtain and display information effectively ( Human Computer Interaction (HCI) ), and its application to achieve more robust systems ( Resilient Systems ) all with the horizontal layers of Software Engineering that provides Quality to the developed software and Cybersecurity to obtain more secure computer systems.
All of these technologies are applicable to multiple domains, although the ITI is most focused on the following:
-
Manufacturing industry: It is one of the sectors with the greatest weight in the economy of the region and at a national level, considering traditional sectors (agri-food, ceramics, footwear, textiles, etc.) as well as more advanced sectors (automotive, capital goods, etc.)
-
Health: This is the second most important sector in the work carried out by the ITI, ranging from improving disease and patient management to improving equipment and facilities.
-
Defence and dual technologies: High precision, robust, low latency, distributed AI, ... technologies which can improve defense actions.
-
Tourism, cities and buildings: Includes the elements included in the city, its efficient, inclusive, personalized and anticipatory management.
-
Agriculture: One of the most important sectors in Spain and with significant opportunities for digitalization, addressing aspects such as precision agriculture and livestock farming and contributing to the saving of raw materials and improving product quality.
-
Transport: Specific sector of freight transport.
