My organisation

The Institute for Research in Circular Economy and Environment “Ernest Lupan” (IRCEM) is an independent NGO and research think tank, established in 2012 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. With a strong focus on green energy, renewable energy, and circular economy, IRCEM drives sustainable innovation to address the world’s pressing environmental challenges. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon, resource-efficient economy by integrating eco-systemic principles into energy, industry, and society. Comprising six departments, 35 active members, and eight PhD researchers in engineering and sustainability fields, IRCEM fosters cutting-edge research and industry collaboration. Our spin-off initiatives bridge academic research with practical applications, ensuring that our work directly contributes to real-world sustainability goals. Advancing Green Energy and Sustainability At the heart of our work is a commitment to green energy and renewable energy solutions, promoting innovative strategies for a sustainable future. Our research and initiatives focus on: Our Expertise & Services: Analysis & Optimization of Resource and Energy Flows • Evaluation of renewable energy integration potential (solar, wind, biomass, green hydrogen). • Energy efficiency strategies to reduce waste and optimize consumption. Strategies for Carbon Footprint Reduction & Green Certificates • Development of corporate decarbonization strategies. • Support in obtaining carbon credits and green certificates for emission compensation. • Compliance with DNSH (Do No Significant Harm), ESG, and EU ETS regulations. Circular Models for Green Energy & Sustainable Economy • Utilization of organic waste for bioenergy and biogas in industrial processes. • Development of CO₂ capture and reuse solutions in production. • Integration of decentralized energy production and consumption models. Pilot Projects & Partnerships for Innovation in Circular Energy • Collaboration with universities and start-ups to test innovative green energy solutions. • Support in securing EU and national funding for circular economy energy projects. Workshops & Webinars on Renewable Energy & Circular Economy • Training for managers and decision-makers on energy transition and circular economy. • Educational programs for employees on energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction. • Work sessions on sustainable business models and supply chain energy efficiency. Assistance with EU Compliance & Corporate Adaptation Strategies • Guidance on EU energy transition and circular economy regulations. • Corporate strategy alignment with decarbonization and renewable energy policies. • Support for ESG reporting and DNSH principle implementation. • Assistance in obtaining carbon credits and sustainability certifications. Leading the Future of Renewable Energy IRCEM is involved in European sustainability initiatives, including REVHYDRO, a European-funded project dedicated to refurbishing hydropower infrastructure and optimizing hydropower as a renewable energy source (revhydro.eu). Our research aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy resilience through innovative green energy solutions. Collaborating for a Sustainable Tomorrow Through research, policy development, and industry partnerships, IRCEM supports the adoption of circular and sustainable energy practices across multiple sectors. By combining expertise in renewable energy, environmental protection, and sustainable business models, we are actively shaping a cleaner, greener energy future. At IRCEM, we believe that innovation, education, and collaboration are the cornerstones of a successful energy transition. Our work not only drives technological advancements but also empowers communities and industries to embrace a sustainable energy future.
