I4CE community

29 April 2025 - 29 April 2028

Purpose of the I4CE online community

The purpose of this Community Platform is to gather the European stakeholders involved in the agrifood sector, with specific links with the European projects implemented through the S3 I4CE.

Thanks to this Community Platform, all types of organizations will benefit from actions of the European Projects and will access to :

  • exclusive content and deliverables
  • a marketplace
  • events of the European Projects
  • B2B meetings

The final objective of this Community Platform is to link all actors, initiate interregional collaborations and create a community feeling between these stakeholders.

To stimulate the engagement of the stakeholders to subscribe to this Community Platform, each Partners of the S3 I4CE will disseminate and communicate about the platform, encouraging targeted organizations to subscribe and take part into the platform actions.

In addition, this platform will also be used as the registration platform for every event organized via one of the European Projects of the S3 I4CE. This will ensure to have relevant actors on the platform, and motivate them to actively participate in the life of this platform.

What is I4CE?

I4CE is one of the Agri-Food Thematic Smart Specialization Partnerships (TSSP) endorsed by the DG Regio of the European Commission. By initiating and animating a pan-european dedicated innovation ecosystem, our mission is clear: to fortify promising agri-food value chains meeting consumer needs, fostering the creation and industrialisation of new, value-added, and circular food ingredients and products.

Through meaningful engagement with stakeholders across agri-food chains, we strive to translate innovation into tangible impact. By transforming biomass into high-value food ingredients and non-food components, we aim to drive sustainable prosperity and deliver quality end-products.

This, in essence, encapsulates the mission of I4CE – pioneering innovation for a sustainable quality end-products.

I4CE’s missions:

  • valorizing & upcycling agri-food waste & co-product into food & non-food building blocks;

  • generating novelties and boosting new innovative ingredients value chains !

  • contributing to zero waste food value chains & sustainable food systems !

  • supporting SMEs & industry by activating a dedicated innovation ecosystem and accelerating sustainable growth of circular-ingredients SMEs

Biotech4Food

The BIOTECH4FOOD project aims to facilitate investment & innovation in new value chains between biotechnologies and the agro-food industry, thanks to interregional cooperation.  The objectives are to make the agri-food industry more sustainable, with more circular efficient use of biomass resources, better adapted to consumer demands, and more responsive to nutrition, protein requirements, responding to nutrition, protein and health challenges for a sustainable agri-food system.

B-Resilient

The B-Resilient project sets an ambitious package of support actions to empower food processing SMEs to become more resilient by means of an optimum use of biomass, and with appropriate digital solutions. The project focuses on maximising usage of available feedstock and its subsequent valorisation of side streams into innovative bio-based ingredients. B-Resilient project is built on a zero-waste and circular concept, improving the competitiveness of food processing SME from an environmentally sustainable perspective.

Who are the targets?

The I4CE Partnership is aiming at different types of organizations:

  • Innovation clusters

  • Private companies

  • Knowledge partners

  • Universities and RTOs

  • Policy Makers

  • Other support organizations (other Clusters, food pilots, incubators/accelerators, regional/national Innovation funding Agencies, Venture Capital...)

In parallel, the I4CE Partnership is focusing on different topics identified as priorities:

  1. Nutritional ingredients: plant-based proteins (crops, fruits & vegetables), algae proteins

  2. Functional ingredients: pre-, pro-, post-biotics

  3. Side-streams: from tomatoes, potatoes, fish processing, wine and beer industry

  4. Technologies: fermentation, enzymatic digestion

  5. Market: ageing

  6. Environment: water

Spanning the value chain from biomass raw material to food products and non-food applications, this Partnership is willing to create a community by bringing together organisations with shared topics of interest, commitment and ambition.
