Digital Product Passports (DPP)
About
As required by EU's ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) Digital Product Passports (DPPs) play a crucial role in enhancing transparency, traceability, and sustainability within the European Union's circular economy initiatives. By embedding key product data—such as material composition, carbon footprint, recyclability, and compliance with environmental regulations—DPPs enable stakeholders across the supply chain to access and utilize critical information. This facilitates more efficient resource use, supports regulatory enforcement, and empowers consumers and businesses to make informed decisions about the products they buy, use, and dispose of.
Ekodenge with its TRACID platform, has a vast experience and knowledge in the design and implementation of DPPs in several sectors, including textile, construction materials, steel, electronic appliances, etc.
In a potential new project, DPPs could be leveraged to improve product lifecycle management and ensure compliance with evolving sustainability standards. They can provide manufacturers, suppliers, and recyclers with real-time access to essential product details, aiding in circular economy strategies such as repair, reuse, and recycling. Moreover, integrating DPPs with digital platforms, such as blockchain or IoT systems, could enhance data integrity and security while enabling automated sustainability assessments. By fostering collaboration among industries and regulatory bodies, a DPP-driven project could accelerate the EU's green transition, ensuring that products remain in circulation for longer and contribute to a more resource-efficient economy.
