ARCHES, a nonprofit founded in 2003 by Italian scientists, supports projects integrating scientific excellence with strong management. With extensive networks across Europe and beyond, it bridges academia and industry, fostering knowledge transfer and innovation.
Aligned with the UN's 2030 Agenda, ARCHES collaborates with universities, trains young scientists, and promotes women in research. As a supporter of the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS), it champions gender equality in science.
In 2009, ARCHES co-founded Knowledge4Innovation (K4I) in Brussels to enhance innovation dialogue. A 2015 partnership with Fraunhofer IMW strengthened global research collaboration. In 2024, ARCHES expanded with a strategic partnership in Ankara, boosting project management and competitiveness.
Renato Toffanin earned his master’s degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Trieste in 1984. Following early roles in pharmaceuticals and research, he specialised in NMR, leading laboratories in Trieste’s Area Science Park and Cattinara University Hospital. His work gained international recognition, culminating in the ESA designation in 2001. Since 2005, he has directed ARCHES and co-founded Knowledge4Innovation (K4I) in Brussels. His expertise encompasses foresight, innovation policy, and EU project evaluation. He collaborates with AnkaTheraHub, an EU-funded theranotics initiative, and MIA Teknoloji on tech-driven solutions. He has published over 60 papers and presented at numerous conferences in Europe and worldwide.
