Ömer Ekmekcioğlu

Dr. Ömer Ekmekcioğlu is a distinguished researcher whose work is dedicated to the practical application of science for societal benefit. His research extends beyond traditional engineering approaches, encompassing decision-making processes and policy development to enhance disaster risk management and water resource planning. By integrating data-driven methodologies and artificial intelligence-based decision support systems, he provides actionable insights for governmental institutions, private organizations, and local communities. His commitment to participatory decision-making is evident in his European Union-funded project, where he established Local Adaptation Teams comprising 25 representatives from diverse stakeholder groups, ensuring that scientific knowledge is effectively translated into real-world applications.

Specializing in flood risk assessment, water scarcity, and climate change adaptation, Dr. Ekmekcioğlu’s studies focus on minimizing societal losses through proactive risk reduction strategies. His research on AI-assisted early warning systems plays a critical role in informing the public before disasters occur, thereby reducing potential casualties and economic damage. His work is widely recognized, with nearly 50 peer-reviewed journal publications, numerous international conference papers, and book chapters.
