About me
Dr. Dessalegn Obsi Gemeda holds a PhD in Natural Resource Management with specialization in Climate change Adaptation and Mitigation from Jimma University in 2023, MSc in Geo-information Science from Wageningen University in the Netherlands in 2012 and BED in Geography and Environmental Studies from Jimma University in 2008. Since 2008, Dr. Dessalegn has been actively involved in teaching various courses related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, and Geo-information sciences for BSc, MSc and PhD students. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor. He advised MSc students at Jimma, Wollega, and Mizan Tepi University and currently supervising PhD students at Jimma University, Addis Ababa University, and Bule Hora University.
In addition to his teaching and student thesis supervision, Dr. Dessalegn has lead different international grants focused on climate change and biodiversity conservation. He is working as an associate editor for two journals, namely Discover Applied Sciences (Springer Nature) and Journal of Agriculture and Livestock Farming. Furthermore, he is a review board member for the journal of climate, environments, and land (MDPI). Dr. Dessalegn has an impressive publication record, with 68 articles published in peer reviewed journals, many of which have an impact factors. He actively participates in different research project in the thematic areas of climate change and biodiversity conservation and management.
The author is a prolific researcher with a strong academic background in the field of geospatial technologies, environmental studies, and climate change. Their work is primarily focused on the application of geospatial techniques in assessing and addressing environmental issues, particularly climate change assessment and biodiversity conservation. This is evident from their extensive research on topics such as land suitability evaluation for different crop varieties, agricultural drought assessment, and the impact of forest cover change on carbon stock and land surface temperature. The author's research also extends to the study of urban expansion and its impact on land use and land cover changes. They have conducted comprehensive analyses on urban heat island dynamics, urban green space suitability, and the correlation of forest and wetland with land surface temperature. Their work in this area has provided valuable insights into the effects of urbanization on the environment and has contributed to the development of sustainable urban planning strategies. In addition, the author has shown a keen interest in the study of climate change and its impacts. They have conducted research on the evidence of climate change in southwestern Ethiopia, the analysis of meteorological data trends, and the assessment of climate change adaptation strategies. Their work in this area has not only contributed to the understanding of climate change impacts but also provided strategies for adaptation and mitigation.
