About me
Argyro Spyridaki founded the non Govermental Organization Reading to the Others (Diavazo Gia tous Allous) in 2015, when she realised that the equal access in knowledge and education should be a inalienable right for every human being. Her vision is a society where all people have equal access to knowledge and learning. Mission of Reading to the Others is to ensure equal educational opportunities, through access to books, for people who lack access to them.
She has a degree in Political Science, a Master's Degree in Transport Policy and professional experience in both administrative research and journalism. For the last few years, she has been the General Manager of Reading to the Others.
My organisation
Read for Others was created almost 10 years ago, after a conversation I had with my friend Thodoris who is blind from birth. We were talking about literature and when I suggested a book for him to read he replied that it was not available at the Hearing Library for the Blind. So, at first very spontaneously and then very organized I created Reading for Others.
Read for Others is a non-profit organization and an OPI certified agency for the production and distribution of audio books to blind and print disabled people.
Our vision is a society in which everyone has equal access to knowledge, books and social interaction.
At the same time, we strengthen social culture by training employees, students and teachers in inclusive practices that respect diversity.
Our mission is to ensure equal educational opportunities, through access to books, for people who lack this opportunity.
Reading for Others conducts three programs:
We record audio literary and academic books on request from blind users and blind students.
We empower the elderly and sick, psycho-emotionally, by keeping them company and reading them books of their choice.
We empower society by promoting good accessibility practices that respect diversity, educating social groups ( employees and students) and empowering them with the knowledge and skills they need.
