R&D Project Manager
METfilter S.L.
Madrid, Andalusia, Spain
Environmental biotechnologist currently responsible for managing both R&D project activities and technical-commercial project execution at METfilter.
I earned my degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Valencia (Spain) in 2010 and a degree in Biotechnology from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 2014. Since then, my fascination with the potential of bio-based technologies to contribute to sustainable growth and address societal challenges has driven my career.
I gained valuable working experience in various biotechnological laboratories abroad, including a-Oil in Argentina, IFA Tulln in Austria, and AINIA, a Technological Centre in Valencia (Spain). Subsequently, I enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the LEQUiA research group (Laboratory of Chemical Engineering and Environmental) at the University of Girona (Spain). In 2020, I successfully graduated with a Doctorate in Water Science and Technology, focusing on industrial biotechnology. My thesis, which received international mention and Cum Laude honors, aimed to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into valuable compounds (carboxylates and biofuels) using microbial electrosynthesis.
Following my Ph.D., I continued my journey as a Postdoctoral Researcher at LEQUiA, where we designed, optimized, and scaled up a bioelectrochemical reactor prototype in a full-scale biomethanation plant at Valdemingómez Technology Park in Madrid (Spain). This project, co-supervised by FCC Aqualia and FCC Environment, was part of the SCALIBUR initiative, an EU-funded project focused on bio-electrorecycling CO2 from biogas into short-chain carboxylates using an upscaled bioelectrochemical reactor prototype on-site.
Subsequently, I relocated to Seville (Spain), providing technical support to researchers from the Andalusian Public Administration in Bioeconomy-related research projects. This role broadened my perspective on societal needs and enhanced my expertise in R&D project management. It ultimately led me to work as a bioprocess engineer at IDENER, a research company specializing in Computational Science and its application to system and bioprocess optimization.
Currently, I am the R&D Project Manager at METfilter, where I coordinate research and client-related projects. At METfilter, we are dedicated to developing METland® technology, an eco-friendly solution that cleans up urban or industrial wastewater at zero-energy cost by utilizing electroactive microbes. I am passionate about driving innovation and sustainability in every project I undertake.
