About me

Dr Alla Silkina is a Research Officer at Swansea University with over 20 years of international experience in algal biotechnology. I hold a PhD in Marine Biotechnology from the University of South Brittany, France, and have conducted extensive research in Ukraine, France, Malaysia, and the UK. My expertise spans the cultivation of micro- and macroalgae, product development, and waste remediation, with a particular focus on advancing the circular economy through innovative biotechnological solutions.

Throughout my career, I have led and managed numerous large-scale projects in algal biotechnology, carbon capture, and bioremediation, collaborating closely with both academic and industry partners. I have also played a key role in securing funding for these initiatives. Alongside my research, I have extensive teaching experience, delivering lectures and supervising students in marine biology, plant physiology, and algal biotechnology, contributing to the training of the next generation of researchers.

My work is firmly grounded in sustainability, with a particular emphasis on the use of algae for waste treatment and bioenergy production. My research has been widely published in scientific journals, and I am a regular speaker at international conferences. Fluent in several languages, I remain committed to advancing innovation in algal biotechnology and contributing to sustainable environmental solutions.
