Our school of PE, Sport Science and Dietetics comprises leading experts (many at the 2% of researchers globally) and we have the experience, infrastructure and personell to succesfully participate in staff exchanges type of research. My lab focuses on muscle research in health and disease as well as in Lifestyle Medicine applications in various populations. We actively seek collaboration with businesses and organizations to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring our research expertise and findings can be applied into solutions for the benefit of patient groups and the society at large.

About me

Christina Karatzaferi is a Professor in Exercise Physiology & Myology and the Dean of the School of PE, Sport Science and Dietetics at the University of Thessaly, Greece. Her academic career has spanned over two decades and two continents, via prestigious UK, USA and EU academic institutions. Her research interests lie at the cross-roads of muscle physiology, biophysics and metabolism, to unveil mechanisms that regulate muscle quality, in the hope of preserving muscle function in the face of disuse or disease. In parallel, she is involved in research trials testing Lifestyle Medicine approaches for maintaining independence and quality of life in ageing and NCD management while also leading innovative developments in the field of Lifestyle Medicine education, incl. the MSc in Lifestyle Medicine, endorsed by ELMO.
