NEXUS | Where Navarra meets Europe 2023

CGI-Clinics - Data-driven cancer genome interpretation for personalised cancer treatment

CGI-Clinics is a community-driven project that aims to improve precision medicine in oncology by optimising genomic data interpretation (after sequencing and before advising on compatible targeted therapies).

Interpretation is a bottleneck for the full deployment and broad accessibility of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in cancer management. The project tackles the 3 main hurdles in the interpretation of cancer mutations: it is not systematic, it deals with a majority of variants of unknown significance and it fails to empower patients.

FEAST - Food systems that support transitions to hEalthy And Sustainable dieTst

Through HORIZON-CL6-2021-FARM2FORK-01-15, we aim to support European food systems to shift away from the current ‘Lose-Lose-Lose-Win' food systems that sees only large food corporations ‘winning’ at the expense of enormous negative consequences for the environment, health and the public sector. FEAST aims to advance the state of the art by leveraging current best practice and co-designing novel solutions throughout Europe with food system stakeholders, including diverse vulnerable groups, to identify how they can be supported and empowered to facilitate and benefit from the just transition to healthier and more sustainable dietary behaviour – at all levels (micro, meso and macro) and in all sectors (producers, distributors, retailers and consumers) of the food system.

Experts agree that meeting climate change mitigation targets as articulated by the EU Green Deal will only be possible through a just transition to healthy diets produced by sustainable food systems – the impetus for the EU’s ‘Farm to Fork’ Strategy and the prioritisation of One Health approaches.

REDOL - Aragon's REgional Hub for circularity: Demonstration Of Local industrial-urban symbiosis initiatives

Solid urban waste (SUW) is an abundant source for circular products production, but it is generally not exploited. In fact, over 500 kg of municipal waste per capita were generated in Europe in 2020, while only 45% was recycled.

The proximity of resources and people, a sufficient scale for effective markets and the ability to shape urban planning and policy are key factors for cities to achieve advancements in this area.

REDOL has been conceived to take advantage of this scenario and transform cities into hubs for circularity that implement zero residues strategies while fostering industrial-urban symbiosis (I-US) approaches among local and regional actors.

H2HEAT - Innovative production of renewable energy vectors for heating from renewable energy

The H2Heat consortium, led and coordinated by Dr. Gordon Dalton of the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN), has been awarded the Horizon Europe HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-02-03 call entitled “Innovative production of renewable energy vectors for heating from renewable energy (H2Heat).

The overall objective of the H2Heat project, which starts its activity next September, is to demonstrate the complete value chain of green heating with hydrogen (H2) for heating commercial buildings.

H2HEAT will use offshore wind renewable energy to produce H2 from Esteyco’s EU-funded 5 MW ELICAN project.

The comprehensive and complementary combination of experience and expertise provided by the consortium partners will ensure an efficient realisation of the technical objectives of the project, reduce the cost of H2 fuel2 for consumers and develop replicable business models for the large-scale commercial use of H22 as a direct heating alternative in Gran Canaria.

H2Heat will contribute to making Gran Canaria part of the H2 valley economy through the local production of H2 from renewable energy.
