Founded in 1989, The Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens is an independent, non-profit research organization dedicated to advancing the values, mission, and strategic goals of NTUA. Over the years, ICCS has exemplified the University’s commitment to scholarly excellence, fostering the integration of research and teaching. It has made significant contributions to Greece’s scientific achievements in computational science and engineering. Today it counts more than 39 Research Units and 800 researchers and has successfully completed more than 4.500 European and National projects.
Scientific research at ICCS is structured around various interdisciplinary thematic areas, including AI and Smart Systems, Hardware and Software, Computer Networks, Mobile Communications, Control and Automation, Power Production, Transport and Distribution, Energy, Climate, Biomedical and Biomechanics, Information Systems, Management and Decision Support, and Photonics. Our focus is on advancing scientific discovery and driving engineering innovation through cutting-edge, interdisciplinary computing research. I-SENSE Research Group is an active unit of ICCS developing cutting edge research across 10 divisions.
The technical expertise and knowledge accumulated at ICCS over the years have frequently led to significant innovations. Established in 2022, the ICCS Technology Transfer Office (TTO) is dedicated to effectively translating research results into innovation processes that create tangible value for society and the economy. ICCS actively supports the development of startups and has played a key role in the success of spin-offs such as CIBOS, Cognisensus and PhOS.
