About

Interfil AS, Norway’s leading air filter manufacturer, seeking collaboration to explore pathways for reuse and recycling of waste from our production.

Filters are produced with aluminium or wooden frames, and with micro fiberglass nonwoven or synthetic filter media. On a product level our focus is on the quality of air filters, their energy efficiency when used, and environmental impact. We have already an Environmental product declaration (EPD) for five of our products and as a continuation of our sustainability work, we want to find solutions for recycling fiberglass filter media waste from production and used air filters.

We generate approximately 28 tons of glass fibre filter material waste annually from production process, which is our focus for this project. There is potentially a higher amount of this waste material from used filters, which we also would like to explore. This waste, which consists of both glass fibres and polymeric materials, is currently incinerated - posing environmental and economic challenges.

Through this EU project we want to develop effective and suitable reuse and recycling strategies, assess the suitability and feasibility of repurposing this waste material as a resource for other companies that use glass material for their products. We are interested in collaboration with both research institutes and industry partners.
