My organisation

Jaggery is Gurgaon-based women-led a social enterprise that focuses on positioning product innovation at the intersection of climate action and social equity. Our core mission is to transform waste materials into value added purposeful products, advancing a creative circular economy. Through our unique Design Out of Waste approach, we reimagine discarded resources and give them new life. Our team of passionate designers and artisans collaborates to create a range of products, including bags, accessories, and home goods, that are both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsible. As a certified Circular Product Manufacturer, Jaggery strives to minimize our ecological footprint by utilizing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. We repurpose items such as decommissioned cargo belts, rescued car seat belts, ex-army canvas, and post-consumer textile waste to craft our distinctive and durable gas, accessories, home decor items and adventure gear. By incorporating these materials into our designs, we not only reduce waste but also support local communities and empower underserved individuals through circular job creation. Our commitment to social equity extends beyond our production process. We actively engage with organizations, conduct workshops, and offer thought leadership to inspire sustainable practices and drive positive change. Through collaborations and partnerships, we aim to amplify our impact and contribute to a more equitable and sustainable world.

About me

Thank you for the opportunity to share a bit about myself. My name is Gautam Malik, Founder of Jaggery: Reimagining Waste, a women-led social enterprise based in Gurgaon. With a background in Architecture from Pune University and a multidisciplinary Master's of Fine Arts (MFA) in UX Design and Film Studies from SUNY Buffalo, I consider myself a social innovator and an advocate for Circular Design and Social Equity. Positioning ourselves at the intersection of climate action and social impact, I lead Jaggery's efforts in regenerative production, utilizing waste as a valuable resource and creative remanufacturing as a powerful tool. Beyond the production process, I actively engage with civil society, corporates and NGOs to conduct events, workshops and seminars, and offer thought leadership to inspire sustainable practices, green policies and drive positive change in society. With a strong commitment to the SDGs, I collaborate with various entities globally to advance Circularity in India, including the Clinton Global Initiative, TEDx, Acumen, IIMB NSRCEL, Catalyst Now, Ellen MacArthur Foundation Community, and others aiming to amplify impact and contribute to a more equitable and sustainable world.

Through Jaggery, my social enterprise, I am dedicated to creating a positive change by generating circular jobs and empowering underserved communities in India. By diverting metric tons of waste from landfills, we are committed to building a more sustainable future.

By the year 2025, there will be 3 million cars ready to be scrapped in India alone. As a result, a minimum of 12 million car seat belts will enter the landfills of the country or will be downcycled. With our Auto Seat Belt Value Chain, our work focuses on rescuing car seat belts from the auto scrap yards of Delhi NCR and upcycling them into products such as commuter bags, accessories, home decor, and adventure gear that address the domestic and international conscious gifting needs.

Driven by my belief in the power of design, creative innovation and collective action, I strive to bring together environmental consciousness and social responsibility. With Jaggery, we are redefining the boundaries of circular design, offering unique products that are both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally conscious.

Together with my team, I am proud to be a part of a movement that not only tackles the challenges of climate change but also addresses the urgent need for social equity. Through Jaggery, we aim to inspire individuals and organizations to join us in this journey of creating a more sustainable and equitable world.

I invite you to explore our innovative creations and be a part of our mission to make meaningful impact. Together, let's co-create a better future for our planet and the communities we serve.
