Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Physics (UFMG), Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Production Engineering (UFMG), PhD (UFMG/FEUP), and Postdoctoral in Mineral Technology (UFMG).
Areas of Expertise:
Effluent treatment in the mineral industry and leaching processes.
Research Projects:
- Removal of organic contaminants from oil industry effluents through adsorption;
- Removal of fluorides from wastewater generated by niobium processing through precipitation and electrocoagulation using calcium carbonate associated with an alternative CO2 source, guided by thermodynamic simulation using the PHREEQC program;
- Removal of fluorides from a concentrated nickel sulfate solution, simulating a solution obtained from selective nickel leaching from mixed nickel-cobalt hydroxide precipitate (MHP), and magnesium fluoride precipitation using hydrated zirconium oxide, guided by thermodynamic simulation using the PHREEQC program;
- Development of a route for producing high-purity niobium oxide through leaching impurities from pyrochlore concentrate and/or leaching niobium from Fe-Nb alloy residual fines;
- Removal of arsenic in the process of obtaining rare earth elements using lanthanum salts;
- Removal of sulfate from mineral industry effluents through ettringite precipitation, guided by thermodynamic simulation using the PHREEQC program;
- Removal of cadmium, chromium, and lead from potassium-rich leachate of steel industry waste for application in alloys through precipitation, guided by thermodynamic simulation using the PHREEQC program;
- Life cycle assessment (LCA) of fluoride removal through electrocoagulation, associated with the use of biogas generated in a biodigester for pH control and as an alternative energy source.
