Circular agriculture: integration of insect farming in communities
About
NGN is a social enterprise and a frontrunner in developing the insect sector in the Netherlands, African countries and Colombia. Our core business is consultancy, training and network development surrounding innovations for insects as feed and food. Being a social enterprise means we support an economy that ‘’works for everyone’’- one which is circular and environmental conscious, inclusive and free of poverty. We do this by bringing science to practice working actively in training individual/group farmers to build sustainable businesses around insects. NGN is situated in three countries, The Netherlands, Spain and in Nigeria. Our headquarters are in Den Bosch the Netherlands, here we come together to work on projects to meet partners and to give presentations or courses. In Spain we are busy in the making of a Demo farm, to show people what it takes to rear insects. In Nigeria we have set up a Demo farm also to show and train people in the rearing of insects, mainly the BSF.
Education and sharing our knowledge are two of our main pillars within NGN. With our courses we teach different types of people, from farmers to agricultural advisors, the inner workings of rearing insects, processing insects and how to incorporate insects into a business plan. Our courses are made in a practical manner in so that everyone can easily understand and execute it.
NGN has worked on a lot of international projects. Within Europe we have contributed on Valusect and Susinchain. Most of the projects were targeted in educating people in the rearing of insects or the development of different feed or food applications with insects. Within the Flying food project, we have educated farmers in Nigeria in the rearing of Crickets. Together with a baker they have demonstrated the application of insects in a bread.
