Translation capacity-building in candidate countries: new opportunities for the language industry?

Given the political context around future EU enlargements – for example President Von Der Leyen’s support for enlargement in her 2023 State of the Union – this panel will look into translator training in candidate countries, needed translation capacity building in those countries, who will have to translate the body of EU law (Acquis Communautaire), which is a vital and necessary step in the journey candidate countries towards EU accession. What training is needed? How can universities help? How have previous enlargements changed the landscape of the language industry in those countries?
