Service Provision Competence – Project Management
- For newcomers
Translation is always part of a larger process, but lately, the process of making content available for multiple cultures is no longer simply translation. The aspect of multiple cultures has become an integral part of content creation, and ‘translation’ is no longer an afterthought, a separate activity to all this. Translation first transcended into ‘localization’, and now into the ‘language operations’ of an organization. Similarly, ‘project management’ was originally meant for the ‘translation project’ only, taking care of classic translation workflows. But as the ‘language operations’ now intertwine the content creation process, the scope of the ‘project’ changes – because it is more closely connected to the main activity of the organization. It is more specific, more detailed but also more relevant to its context. This workshop will explore how the scope of the ‘language operations’ project changes and what it means for practitioners of translation and language services.
