l Frantoio Rosso Ipogeo racchiude in sé diversi aspetti geologici e di archeologia industriale. Osservando le pareti rocciose e la particolare conformazione data dai fenomeni carsici si comprenderà l'azione dell'acqua, quando il territorio di Martina Franca era ancora sommerso dal mare.
La visita nel Frantoio narra epoche diverse a partire dal Medioevo quando la Puglia esportava grandi quantità di olio lampante in Europa.
Proseguendo il "viaggio nel tempo" potranno essere messi a confronto i cambiamenti che ha subito il Frantoio, quando con l'avvio della luce elettrica è stato adibito alla produzione di olio alimentare. I diversi macchinari usati nelle fasi di produzione sono custoditi nel Frantoio, che oggi è stato ristrutturato ed è agibile per eventi culturali e gastronomici.
Per chi lo voglia è possibile prenotare anche degustazioni di olio e prodotti locali di Martina Franca una volta conclusa la visita.
About me
Our project aims to revaluate a place rich in history, offering the opportunity to make known a piece of underground life ‘the belly of Martina Franca’ still unknown to many. We telling visitors about its history that began millions of years ago, as witnessed by the fossils embedded in the rock of the current ceiling. From a natural cave, eroded by water and later expanded by the skilful hand of man, an oil mill took shape in the Middle Ages. It was mainly used to produce oil for lamps and ceramic lamps, the only source of lighting at the time, and later for olive processing until the late 1960s. At the end of its time cycle, when new technologies denied it space and production possibilities, it was abandoned. Today it is taken up by us with the dream of bringing it back in time and reviving its past through artefacts such as ceramic oil lamps, also revisited in a modern version in 3D.
