European Maritime Day 2024
Workshop B2 : eMSP in a nutshell Friday 31 May - 11:15-12:30
Transitions in European sea basins, what roles lies there for MSP? The ambitions set in the spheres of nature, energy and food under the European Green Deal are high and altogether can be complex. Is an adaptive and flexible approach the answer for the Maritime Spatial Planning processes to tackle the complexities?
At the workshop the gaps the eMSP NBSR project has encountered, and the respective solutions developed in the communities of practice will be presented from the perspectives of several topics - Ocean Governance, Ecosystem-based Approach, Sustainable Blue Economy, Monitoring & Evaluation, Data Sharing and Climate Change. Together with the actionable recommendations more tangible solutions, for example, concept of a Maripark, will be spotlighted.
Together with the workshop participants in an interactive exchange we will dive into the next steps and actions to be taken to tackle the complexities even further - how can we ensure we are on the right track with MSP and Sustainable Blue Economy? What would it all mean for the sea basins and sea basin scale governance and therefore for the Greater North Sea Basin Initiative (GNSBI) and HELCOM-VASAB MSP Working Group of the Baltic Sea region?
Aims:
-
To disseminate the results of the eMSP NBSR project in relation to the activities of the GNSBI & HELCOM- VASAB MSP Working Group
-
To receive input which can be taken into account for the new MSP project for the Northern European seas basins
-
To exchange knowledge and stimulate correlation with other European sea basins activities/projects, and to upkeep cooperation between policymakers, researchers and practitioners.
