About me
Claus’ research is based at DTU National Food Institute in the research group of Microbial Biotechnology and Biorefining. His focus is on the development and utilization of the in-house microbial strain collection containing more than 4500 isolates from different biological niches. A general theme has been the interest in applications that has benefit to society by developing plant-based alternatives, functional foods and food additives. Additionally, the strains have been put into play for developing plant-based solutions for dairy alternatives by developing starter cultures and processes for both common crops and underutilized crops and side streams. Furthermore, he is interested in cross species interaction as well as microbial ecology. In his team he has established a state-of-the-art microfluidics platform that is a key asset.
Lastly, there is also a large focus on phylogeny and species descriptions of novel species – so far there have been approximately 10 new species established based on ANI score from the 650 full sequenced isolates from the NFICC. Strain collection:
Founder and initiator of the culture collection (NFICC) housed at the Technical University of Denmark, National Food Institute, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. Current status is 650 sequenced strains of QPS microorganisms. The full collection contains more than 4500 strains.
