24/7 Monitoring of Neurological Patients
PhD, Researcher and project manager at Fundació Institut Guttmann
Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain
About
Institut Guttmann presents an Open Innovation Challenge to develop a cost-effective, integrated 24/7 patient monitoring system for neurological patients undergoing rehabilitation. This solution should leverage wearable devices, smart sensors, and mobile health technologies to track key health parameters, such as steps, hand movements, wheelchair propulsion, sleep quality, heart rate, and physical activity levels, among others.
The system should integrate seamlessly into an app-based ecosystem, building upon the digital platform of the Barcelona Brain Health Initiative (BBHI), which focuses on habit monitoring and health promotion. The goal is to offer personalized health recommendations based on real-time patient data and predefined patient profiles.
However, the challenge extends beyond data collection; we seek a comprehensive software and analytics layer capable of:
✔️ Generating meaningful reports for healthcare professionals and patients
✔️ Personalizing interventions based on monitored data
✔️ Dynamically adjusting therapy plans in response to patient progress
✔️ Classifying patients using AI-driven insights
✔️ Implementing predictive models to anticipate clinical changes
✔️ Assessing the impact of healthy habit acquisition on rehabilitation outcomes
✔️ Providing real-time, tailored health recommendations
This challenge will follow a hybrid implementation model:
-
In-hospital testing within the neurorehabilitation hospital in Badalona
-
Ambulatory phase, expanding to the Badalona hospital and the Barcelona Brain Health & Neurorehabilitation Institute, to evaluate long-term usability and patient engagement
We invite technology providers, AI developers, digital health companies, and sensor manufacturers to collaborate in co-developing an advanced monitoring and intervention system that enhances personalized neurorehabilitation—both within the hospital and at home.
