Modelling in agriculture based on weather data
About
The Walloon Agricultural Reasearch Center owns a network of 32 weather stations in Wallonia (Belgium). We also work with gridded weather estimations and networks of farmer weather stations. Our first goal is to provide local and high quality weather data for each field. See online platform Agromet.be.
Our second goal is to take advantage of those weather data to feed models and provide decision support tools. We have already developped tools to compute the development stages of winter wheat, predict emergence and fly of insect (orange wheat blossom midge) and compute the risk of diseases for wheat and sugat beet (Cercospora leaf spot). We are currently working on the development of new models : diseases in vegetable crops, aphids, ... We also have a model that leverage weather forecast to identify optimal spraying conditions in the next 3 days.
