We at Capacity Development in Nutrition (CAPNUTRA), Serbian-based organization focused on advancing nutrition research and policy development in the region of Central and Eastern Europe, are dedicated to strengthen scientific capacities in food and nutrition through collaborative projects, innovative tools, and regional cooperation. About me

Dr. Jelena Milešević is a senior scientific associate specializing in food engineering and nutrition research. She earned her Ph.D. in Food Engineering from the University of Novi Sad and has a diverse educational background in nutrition and food. Dr. Milešević is affiliated with the Centre of Research Excellence in Nutrition and Metabolism at the Institute for Medical Research, University of Belgrade. Her work primarily revolves around nutritional assessments, food system analysis, and development of dietary recommendations, collaborating with global organizations such as the FAO, EFSA, and WHO and on EU research projects.

A key aspect of her research involves the development and scientific application of dietary assessment tools, such as the Diet Assess and Plan (DAP), a software tool designed and utilized by CAPNUTRA (www.capnutra.org). This tool facilitates the accurate evaluation of dietary intake and supports policy-making based on evidence-driven nutrition assessments. Dr. Milešević’s expertise in tools like DAP, FoodEx2 and Food Composition Database Management software, positions her at the forefront of modern nutritional science and data analysis.

Dr. Milešević actively contributes as PI to numerous international projects, including FutureFoods - EU partnership, Zero Hidden Hunger, and DIVERSICROP, focusing on sustainable food systems and combating micronutrient deficiencies. She has a proven track record in managing dietary surveys and coordinating data collection for national dietary assessments. Dr. Milešević’s extensive publication record covers specialized topics like vitamin D intake, dietary risks assessments, and food composition analysis.

Her commitment to bridging research and practice continues to impact public nutrition research and related initiative across CEE region, Europe and beyond.
