About

The Meta Class Model is part of the Dokuz Eylül University Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Program under project number SBA-2023-3045. It aims to develop a sustainable hybrid learning environment by integrating eco-friendly architectural design with educational technology. The model follows a structured instructional design process, encompassing the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning environments. The project involves not only the design but also the construction of a new classroom model, replacing the traditional one.

This interdisciplinary initiative brings together educators, architects, and civil engineers, collaborating to transform a selected laboratory classroom into a hybrid learning space. The design process emphasizes flexibility and inclusivity, ensuring accessibility for disadvantaged students. The classroom and its furniture are constructed using sustainable, certified eco-friendly materials.

The Meta Class supports multiple learning modalities, allowing students to select their preferred mode of participation—online synchronous, online asynchronous, or face-to-face instruction—before the course begins. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), contributing to Dokuz Eylül University's sustainability efforts. Furthermore, it serves as a model for hybrid learning and classroom co-design, with the potential to inspire similar innovations in other institutions and sectors.
