Upscaling of (precision) fermentation processes

Robyn Eijlander

Program Manager Cellular Agriculture at Biotechnology Fermentation Factory Ede

Ede, Netherlands

About

The BFF provides cutting-edge infrastructure for scaling up aerobic fermentation processes up to 10,000L in a food-grade environment, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, including materials containing genetically modified microorganisms, such as yeast, fungi, and bacteria:
– Precision fermentation
– Microbial biomass
– Side stream valorisation (liquid) through fermentation

Located on NIZO’s campus, the facility connects directly to NIZO’s extensive food-grade downstream processing (DSP) pilot plant, food application center and laboratories. This enables end-to-end support for analytics, process optimization, product development, and application research.
