NextGrain Belgium is a food upcycling company dedicated to transforming by-products from the food and beverage industry—such as brewers’ spent grains and apple pomace—into high-quality, nutritious flours and functional ingredients for human consumption. Our mission is to build a more circular and sustainable food system by giving new life to resources that would otherwise go to waste. Through a natural process of pressing, drying, and milling—without additives or chemicals—we create flours rich in fiber, protein, and flavor, suitable for a wide range of applications including bakery, snacks, and plant-based products. Our flagship ingredients include beer spent grain flour and apple pomace flour, which are already used by innovative food companies and artisanal producers across Belgium. At NextGrain, we work closely with partners throughout the food value chain—from juice manufacturers and breweries to biscuit makers and chefs—helping them develop sustainable, story-rich products. Whether it's crafting new recipes, reducing CO₂ emissions, or improving resource efficiency, our goal is to create real, measurable impact through food innovation. Founded in Belgium following the success of an earlier initiative in Vietnam, NextGrain combines international experience with a local, hands-on approach. We believe the future of food is circular—and we’re building it one flour at a time.

About me

Tomé Andrade is the co-founder of NextGrain Belgium, a startup dedicated to transforming food industry by-products—such as brewers’ spent grains and apple pomace—into sustainable, nutritious flours for human consumption. With a decade of experience in the European public sector followed by eight years in the private sector across China and Vietnam, Tomé brings a diverse background to his entrepreneurial endeavors. His commitment to environmental sustainability and social impact led him to establish NextGrain Vietnam, and subsequently replicate—and expand—the circular economy model in Belgium, where the approach is more advanced and complete, encompassing multiple by-products beyond just brewers’ spent grains. At NextGrain, he collaborates with partners across the food value chain to promote innovative upcycling solutions and foster a more sustainable food system.
