Smart Gastronomy Lab
Part of the University of Liège (Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech), the Smart Gastronomy Lab (SGL) conducts applied, multidisciplinary research in culinary sciences. It focuses on integrating new technologies into food for personalized, healthy, and sustainable products. With a FoodTech FabLab, SGL merges food science with electronics, programming, nutrition, and sensory evaluation. Its Culinary Laboratory develops and prototypes food innovations for research and companies.
TERRA Research Centre & Walloon Agricultural Research Centre
The Walloon Agricultural Research Centre (CRA-W) in Gembloux hosts one of Europe’s largest fruit tree genetic resources (FTGR) collections. Since 1975, it has safeguarded Belgium’s diverse fruit cultivars, preserving 1,629 apple, 1,198 pear, 355 cherry, 236 plum, 98 grape, and 29 peach varieties in organic orchards. This research assesses tolerance to environmental stresses and supports an organic breeding program for robust, disease-resistant varieties.
