This year’s conference theme is Bridging Continents. During this session experts from around the world will give an overview of the state of play on the different continents, and stimulate collaboration between stakeholders at the different continents.

Everyone is aware of the use of seaweeds as hydrocolloids and in Asian cuisine. During this session we will hear about new, innovative applications for seaweeds in food, feed and other applications.

Session 3: Panel discussion on the state-of-play and challenges towards a thriving European seaweed industry

Various European seaweed stakeholder organizations will discuss the current state of play in the various European coastal regions, and the challenges that need to be overcome to accomplish a thriving European seaweed industry.

During this session the red seaweed dulse will be in the spotlight. Four experts will discuss cultivation aspects (on land and at sea), and the applications of this delicious seaweed.

As nearshore coastal areas are becoming scarce due to multiple use such as fisheries, tourism, and other nearshore activities, seaweed cultivation will soon shift to truly offshore areas. Experts will discuss colocation, materials and other aspects.
