About me
Dr. Numa has a 23-year professional career at the State University of Campinas - UNICAMP. She is the author of several works, including book chapters and scientific articles published in high-impact international journals. Her research focuses on the bioprospecting of bioactive compounds from fruits and vegetables native to Brazilian biomes, mainly the Atlantic Forest, Cerrado and Amazon Rainforest, which can be used in the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical/nutraceutical industries. The objective of her work is to elucidate the chemical and structural aspects of these compounds so that they can enable the development of new ingredients, functional foods or new drugs useful both in the prevention and adjuvant treatment of several chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease (such as regulating blood pressure or reducing bad cholesterol levels) and cancer. Within this same universe, she has also dedicated herself to studies of bioeconomy and new technologies that can contribute to mapping the biological riches of these Biomes, as well as their sustainable exploration, generation of jobs and movement of the Brazilian economy.
